DESCRIPTION:The NISA Executive Committee is pleased to announce an open call for a NISA-sponsored academic Symposium aimed at early-career academics. The Symposium will take place in Copenhagen in mid-December 2023. Please see below for more information. \n  \nOPEN CALL \nEarly-Career NISA Symposium for PhDs and Postdocs\, 13.-15 December 2023: \nThe European Security Order Following Russia’s War in Ukraine \nRussia’s violent attack on and comprehensive invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 has significantly disrupted the established European security order\, leading to profound implications worthy of attention for various disciplines engaging with International Relations. These implications extend to crucial areas such as the structure of the European security architecture\, arms control agreements\, energy security\, food security\, as well as human rights and international criminal justice. In order to delve deeply into these multifaceted implications and facilitate interdisciplinary discussions among scholars\, the NISA Executive Board is delighted to announce an upcoming symposium titled “European Security Order Following Russia’s War in Ukraine”. \nWe invite early career researchers (PhD fellows and Postdocs) affiliated with a Nordic university or research institution\, to participate in this symposium\, which will provide a unique platform for younger scholars to present and receive valuable feedback on work in progress. The NISA Symposium aims to explore the multifaceted dimensions of the past and the evolving European security order resulting from Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. NISA encourages participants to approach the topic from various interdisciplinary angles\, shedding light on diverse perspectives and fostering rich academic dialogue. \nTopics of particular interest for this symposium include but are not limited to: \n\nThe impact of Russia’s war of aggression on European foreign\, security\, and defense policies and strategies\nDevelopment of European security and defense cooperation in response to the war\, including the role of the European Union (EU) and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).\nThe significance of arms control agreements in upholding European security and their potential adaptations in response to recent developments.\nDynamics of energy security and the implications arising from Russia’s actions on the energy supply landscape of Europe.\nHuman rights violations\, civilian protection and the challenges in safeguarding human rights in the aftermath of the conflict.\nThe role of international criminal justice mechanisms in addressing potential war crimes and violations of international law.\n\nWe invite researchers from various disciplines\, including International Relations\, Political Science\, History\, Law\, Sociology\, and other related fields to submit abstracts of their ongoing research. Abstracts should outline the initial objectives\, methodology\, and main findings of the study\, emphasizing its relevance to the symposium’s theme. \nThe symposium will take place 13th-15th December 2023 at Schæffergården\, Gentofte\, DK. \n  \nSubmission information and timeline: \n\nAbstract submission deadline: 15 September\, 2023\nNotification of acceptance: 2 October\, 2023\nPaper submission: Two weeks before the NISA Symposium (29 November\, 2023)\n\nEach participant will be given dedicated time slot during the Symposium to present their research and engage in insightful discussions with fellow researchers. By bringing together emerging scholars\, the Early-Career NISA Symposium aims to foster collaboration\, exchange ideas\, and deepen our understanding of the evolving European security order. \nPlease submit your abstracts to Olivia Hammershøy at oham@ifs.ku.dk\, including the subject line “Symposium Abstract Submission – [Name].” Abstracts should not exceed 200 words and must be submitted as a PDF or Word document.
