Call for Papers: NISA early career workshop for ISA Reykjavík 2027

The Nordic International Studies Association invites applications for a day-long pre-conference workshop for early career scholars, held on June 22, 2027, a day in advance of the ISA-Reykjavík conference (June 23-25, 2027).
We seek applications from graduate students and recent PhD graduates who specialize in the fields of international studies and who are based in the Nordic countries, from the Nordic countries, or who study topics broadly relevant to the international affairs of Nordic states (including but not exclusive to research into international order, international organizations, small states studies, the international affairs of the Arctic).
Priority will be given to early career scholars who do not have tenure-track appointments, whose manuscripts are more advanced and in the pre-publication stage, and whose applications more closely fit the call.
Each early career scholar will be assigned a discussant who will provide detailed constructive feedback on the papers submitted. The discussant’s feedback will provide a jumping off point for discussion by the assembled workshop attendees. The goal of the workshop is to help early career scholars prepare manuscripts for submission to journals or academic presses.
Successful applicants will receive up to €1000 to offset costs related to participation in the workshop. Applicants are strongly encouraged to also submit proposals to present at the ISA-Reykjavík conference (deadline: October 23, 2026).
To apply for this pre-conference workshop, submit the following to sverrir.steinsson@gmail.com by February 1, 2027:
